The Scalawags & Geezers ride is now 11 years old. It is a group of good friends all meeting down in the Hill Country for a spring, totally unorganized, 3 or 4 day ride.

The gentleman in the wheel chair is the owner of the Legends Motel in Junction TX.   He is a decorated World War II hero. He has lived a very intersting life. Well worth the time to stop and visit.

It all started with about 5 bikes mostly from the Lubbock area and now has grown in the 11 years to about 200 motorcycles or so. They are from all over the country now. (no head count, Just estimate.)

As you can tell by the name of our group, we have some mature riders and have been losing a few as the years pass. Each year we delicate the ride to those that have "gone on to ride in a better place". Each have been very big influence in our lives and  their not being there leaves a emptiness that will never be refilled. They are missed very much,

Life is not a journey to the grave,

With the intention of arriving safely, 

In a pretty, and and well preserved body,

 But rather to skid in broadside,

 Thoroughly used up,

 Worn out, and  proclaiming,

 " Wow !  What A Ride !!!"

We rode the wing down to Junction, TX on a cool 04/17/08(Thursday) am.

Checked in the Legends Motel and had the same room as last year as did our next door neighbor Darrell and Karen Newsom from Lubbock, TX. 

The good roads South of Junction were under construction so the next am. we had a nice ride with D. and K. up to the north to Mason TX. then back down to the back roads to Fredericksburg TX. then over to the Willow City Loop (dips)on back for lunch in Fbg. We did not have the rear shock at the high setting and some of the dips on the Loop had made Sydnis back hurt a bit, so we begged off and went back to Jnt. 

The D in the D and K we rode with. His initials are ( Darrell )  I know, I know ! I am not a  good photographer.

Saturday 19th we struck out on our own and went down I-10 to the Ingram TX exit then through Igm. to Kerrville, Hy 16 south around to Medina, Bandera, back to Utopia, Vandrepool, and had a hamburger at the  M/C museum. (very good).back to Vanderpool then over to Medina, Camp Verde, Comfort, took the Old San Antonio Road to Fbg.,Luckenbach, Sisterdale, Comfort, Kerrville, and back to Junt. A very leisurely 400 mile day.

Had a good ride home Sunday after running in to Austin for a quick meeting with a few important people. Sure had a good time.
